It was a chilly Wednesday evening , and best friends Riya and Tanvi decided to indulge in their usual mid-week horror movie ritual at an old, less crowded theater. They loved the thrill, the eerie silence, and the dark corners of the hall that amplified the fear.
As the movie started, the hall was empty except for them. Riya, the fearless one, grinned, "Enjoy, Tanvi! We have this whole show to ourselves!" Tanvi, however, clutched her water bottle tightly, whispering, "If something goes wrong, this will be our weapon."
Ten minutes into the movie, the doors creaked open. A young staff boy entered. He didn’t have popcorn or cleaning supplies—he just stood at the side, staring at the screen.
Tanvi's grip on the bottle tightened. "Why is he here? There's no one else!"
"Chill," Riya whispered back.
Minutes later, two more girls entered and took seats in the middle row. The boy remained standing, occasionally glancing at the girls instead of the movie. Whenever an intense scene came on, he stepped closer, as if he was waiting for something.
Then, five minutes later, two more girls walked in. Now, there were six of them in the dimly lit hall. The tension eased a little for Tanvi.
At interval, the screen faded to black. The hall was completely silent except for the low hum of the air conditioner.
Then, the door creaked open again.
Two more staff boys entered. Unlike the first one, these two stood near the exit, unmoving, watching the audience.
Tanvi, who had been afraid earlier, felt her confidence grow—six girls against three boys. They had strength in numbers now.
The second half of the movie started. The eerie music filled the hall, but an unsettling feeling lingered. The first staff boy moved to the middle of the aisle, standing right next to them.
Tanvi turned to Riya and whispered, "Why is he watching us more than the movie?"
Riya shrugged. "Maybe he's just bored."
Then, the movie reached its final, most terrifying jump-scare. The hall went pitch black for exactly three seconds.
When the screen lit up again—
One of the girls was missing.
The seat was empty. No movement. No sound.
Tanvi froze. "Where did she go?"
The first staff boy turned to them slowly, his lips curling into a grin.
Then—the screen flickered, and all three staff boys disappeared.
The remaining girls bolted for the exit, only to find it locked from the outside. The empty seat remained—as if the missing girl had never existed.
The screen faded to black again. This time, the hall didn’t light up.
But a whisper echoed through the air—
"Enjoy the show. It’s just for you."
And then, the door unlocked by itself.
The End.
